In the summer of 2001 work began on the demolition of our "original" kawananakoa Hall. It served our community since 1938, for over 63 years. So many stories can be told within its walls, floors and ceilings. From dances, to movies, to parties, to programs, and most of all, the "awesome" athletes who have come out of such a "small gym." We had a lot of mixed emotions to see her go, however what arose in her place was designed to meet the diverse needs of our community. A multi purpose facility for the "na kamalii, na opio, na makua ame na kupuna." We hope that she will be able to memorialize her own stories, to protect, to serve, and to support all who come to utilize her to its fullest potential, and help everyone in our community to keep her intact.
